esoteric Furniture is a design-and-build studio founded by a second-generation artistic furniture maker in SE Michigan, just north of Detroit. We focus on original design and fresh reinterpretations of classic silhouettes, all refined through a sleek, contemporary aesthetic. Our signature is an engineered, solutions-driven process that lets us push past traditional limitations allowing us to, not only bring bold ideas to life, but to realize ideas that others might consider impossible.

THE FULL STORY

Growing up in southeast Ontario, I spent hours in the wood mill and garages of my dad and uncles, fascinated by their hand-built metal and wood creations. That early exposure motivated me to pursue a career in automotive engineering - a path that took me around the world and ultimately led me to move to, and design in, the great Motor City. While I enjoyed the technical and manufacturing aspects of the industry, I found myself returning to my workshop night after night: conceptualizing, sketching, designing and finally building my visions. It became clear that technical expertise was only part of the story - the balance I had been seeking required me to express my artistic side.

My inspirations come from travel, architecture and nature: Shape and form drive the foundation of my design followed by material and texture. I'm drawn to unconventional methods and unexpected combinations to create objects which are out of the ordinary, sometimes whimsical, sometimes the result of trigonometric functions, but almost always resulting in complex angled pieces of art which are as functional as they are beautiful.
